We believe that healthy plants and animals depend on healthy soils and ecosystems, and that includes us. We are constantly trying to work with nature using regenerative, permaculture, syntropic, no-till and holistic techniques to build top soil so that we can make a living from the land whilst increasing fertility, nourishing ourselves, and leading happy, fulfilled lives.

Garden with a view!

In 2019 we bought a new farm, Bird Tree Farm, and most of our farm produce is grown there now, with our Bottled Culture business still at Warinyan farm. Currently we are buying in most produce for the ferments but we source from either certified organic or local organic farms where possible, with a few things like wombok being sourced conventionally as there just aren’t organic farms growing wholesale womboks year round. We will be moving the Bottled Culture production over to Bird Tree Farm this year, along with a name change.

At Bird Tree Farm we started a market garden in the summer of 2019/2020 which grew fantastically until the floods and big wet of 2020-2022! We have since abandoned it until we can fix the drainage in the paddock and have the time to begin again. We have been focused on renovating the farm house, fixing fences and yards, clearing old junk from the farm, and putting in infastructure for our Bottled Culture commercial kitchen and shed instead. Once we’ve moved the business we will seek to grow commercially again at Bird Tree Farm, focussing on veggies for our products as well as syntropic farming of fruit trees.

Since moving to Bird Tree Farm we have grown our cattle herd to about 30 head with mixed breeds including black Angus, hereford cross, fleckvieh cross, murray grey and Santa Gertrudis cross. We will be focusing more on direct selling beef in the coming years.

We still have our confusion of guinea fowl as well as some backyard chooks and of course our kelpie Django, who has become quite the muster dog with little to no training! (He does spend most days herding the guinea fowl so maybe that helps!).
